Animation and Visual Effects
Full-time Bachelor’s Program:
Visual Arts Programme (Code: B0211P310008)
Year 1
Year 2
Year 3
We’ll teach you all the essentials of screen-based 2D- and 3D-animation as well as motion graphics, title sequencing, and narrative and video editing for advertising, infographics, and music promotion. Plus you’ll become a pro at Nuke and Maya 3D, the software of choice of the world’s top animation and special effects studios. Want to do something outside the digital tech space? We prepare you to work in areas like conceptual art, digital painting and drawing, and matte painting. Add basic training in the social sciences and sophisticated self-presentation and communication skills, and you can be confident of your success in any creative role. Have your sights set on working at a world-famous studio? Or would you rather be your own boss?
Knowledge based on real-world experience
We emphasize true mastery of digital technologies and attention to your craft and creative practice. In your first year of studio seminars, you’ll immerse yourself in the pro-level 3D-animation program Maya and composition program Nuke. You’ll get familiar with the work of graphics, special effects, and game studios and experiment with different creative approaches. You’ll also learn how to animate 3D characters and use actors in animation projects. Our special drawing course teaches you simple powerful ways to express complex thoughts and concepts. After the first two semesters of study, you’ll be ready to create your own animated or VFX trick exercise – a simple short film.
Theory + practice
We bring together theory and practice so you get the maximum benefit from both these kinds of training. During your degree, you’ll experience a wide range of design approaches, learn from industry pioneers and innovators, and master specialist software and equipment. You’ll consult daily with the best brains in the animation and visual effects space. In your second year, you’ll progress to more advanced 3D-animation and VFX techniques and experiment with different storytelling tools (framing devices, shot types, editing styles, montage sequences). We’ll teach you how to compose realistic and more stylized shots and create convincing characters, props,
and settings. Then, in our trick films creative analysis unit, you’ll workshop different analytical and interpretive methods and learn how to build a studio pipeline. Your final year will culminate in your bachelor’s thesis project, aka your very own film! Throughout the semester, we adjust the programme to meet each individual student’s needs.
This is the right programme for you if you want to be a:
